Where would you like taxi's to pick up when a customer calls from an address that happens to be on a bike lane path at the time of day when you cannot park there? These people are trying to make a living and trying to make customers happy. Unfortunately many Vancouverites will jump in the first cab they see with total disregard for the cab they actually called so a driver must do his best to get his fare and that includes parking at the door or entrance to the address given. Can't you just carefully cycle around a person trying to do their job?

Park around the corner.. really, is it that difficult?

Would be nice, but it is that difficult. Because the traffic is so thick at these times of the day there is no parking allowed pretty much anywhere and where there is parking the spots are taken, cabs are allowed to park in alleys but they are narrow and congested as well with delivery trucks, garbage trucks or illegally parked cars. Sometimes new drivers will circle around the block which can take 2 to 4 minutes(an eternity in the cab business)until the customer comes out but unfortunately by the time the driver circles the block the customer will have flagged down a different cab.

Sounds like you folks need parking reform -- dedicated taxi pickup/dropoff areas, higher meter rates, etc.
But really, it's not worth risking the lives of people on bikes, sorry.

I agree with the dedicated pick up spots but the City of Vancouver would not agree because the bad street design leaves no room for such "extras". In fact they are narrowing many of the streets here to promote walking and bicycle riding as in creating a green city, but at the same time they have strived to create a sense of guilt if you drive a car, for example they call their street parties "car free" street parties. Most people drive to these! Nobody wants to put other peoples lives at risk, they are already in the danger zone here as it is as they run red lights at every chance and the police will not ticket for this.

stop in the driving lane! Oh, that would inconvenience drivers and impede traffic...better to impede cyclists and make it more dangerous for them. The Taxi is trying to make a living...the cyclist is trying to live to see another day...I think I side with the cyclist.
